We’re already pretty excited for Pixar’s ambitious “Inside Out,” which tells the story of an 11-year-old girl from the perspective of the emotions inside her brain. Now, the flick has added two veteran actors to play the girls parents.

Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan will voice Riley’s (Kaitlyn Dias) mom and dad, who relocate the family from the Midwest to San Francisco for Riley’s father’s new job. And as director Pete Docter (“Up,” “Monsters, Inc.“) explains to USA Today, the parents are an integral part of how Riley is seen throughout the film.

“I started out doing a film about growing up, but it turned out it’s a film about me watching my kids grow up,” Docter said. “These parents are realizing that their kid is changing. That’s difficult. But it is a part of life.”

And while the bulk of the movie will focus on the emotions pinging around the Headquarters inside Riley’s brain — featuring Joy (Amy Poehler), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Bill Hader), Sadness (Phyllis Smith) and Disgust (Mindy Kaling) — Lane and MacLachlan’s characters will also get their own versions of those feelings, too. Per USA Today:

[W]hile Riley’s mind is full of out-there comedic characters (particularly Joy), the parents are more “rooted in reality and very truthful,” says Docter. “Both of those actors do that very well.”

Inside Out takes viewers inside the mind of all three human characters. Dad’s emotions have Headquarters like a Norad missile defense site and have mustaches. Very male. Meanwhile, Mom’s Headquarters features emotions wearing her red glasses and who engage in civil discussion à la The View.

We can’t wait to see how this all plays out on the big screen. “Inside Out” is due in theaters on June 19, 2015.
